DENPASAR, radarbali.id - Handling B3 (hazardous and toxic) medical waste is quite complicated. Private hospitals in particular admit that they are still confused about implementing the rules.
So far, medical waste has been disposed of outside Bali. Unfortunately, there is only one waste management company in Bali. In addition, handling medical waste also requires expensive costs, one of which is cold storage.
Chairman of the Indonesian Private Hospital Association (ARSSI) Bali Branch, Dr. I Nyoman Gede Bayu Wiratama Suwedia, conveyed the challenge that hospitals must be responsible for sorting medical waste properly.
According to him, nothing should be scattered and forgotten. Even though the medical waste processing company is taken outside Bali, the waste delivery must also have a permit.
"The challenge of sorting what was conveyed from the seminar at the beginning is choosing the good and right one. How to transport waste and process it. If PT Clean they have a sorting process in Bali. Usually hospitals take it outside Bali. The next challenge is price efficiency if you use a company in Bali," said Dr. Bayu.
Handling medical waste must be careful because the slightest mistake can be criminalized. Hospitals should not throw away medical equipment because it can be fatal. ARSSI also facilitates private hospitals to coach cleaning in handling medical waste. Dr. Bayu stated that all ARSSI members must be responsible for medical waste.
"Not in order to let friends violate the applicable rules. But how to do both good and right. Friends cannot think with their own minds," he said.
Many hospitals are also confused, so it is necessary to hold this coach clining which also involves the Forestry and Environment Service (DKLH) which conducts verification.
"Yes (confusion) because previously they were not literate because we believe that all hospitals are still confused, we integrate seminars so that the urgency of each hospital," he added after the inauguration of ARSSI and also a seminar on hospital waste management for hospital sustainability at the Udayana University Postgraduate Building yesterday (27/1/2024).
The challenges of private hospitals are different from public hospitals. Private hospitals must be able to move by themselves at their own expense and be prepared independently.
"We can face it together. It is not an era of competing how private hospitals unite to complement each other between private hospitals," he said.
The new board of the Indonesian Private Hospital Association (ARSSI) of Bali Province for the period 2024-2027 was inaugurated by the Chairman of ARSSI, drg. Iing Ichsan Hanafi, MARS, MH, at the Postgraduate room of Undaya University (Unud), Saturday (27/1/2024).
The inauguration ceremony was also attended by the Chairperson of the Bali Region of the Indonesian Hospital Association, Director of Udayana University Postgraduate Program, Bali Provincial Forestry and Environment Office, Bali Provincial Health Office, Deputy BPJS Bali-Nusra Region, BPJS Denpasar, Klungkung and Singaraja Branches, and leaders of private hospitals throughout Bali.
Meanwhile, ARSSI Chairman drg. Iing Ichsan Hanafi congratulated the newly appointed Provincial ARSSI board and expressed his gratitude to the previous board.
In addition, he also appreciated the collaboration that was first carried out by ARSSI Bali Province in collaboration with Udayana University.
He hopes that other ARSSI regions will also follow suit, because it is mutually beneficial.
"In my opinion, this is something different of course. Yes, hopefully this will also be a reference for friends in ARSI in other branches to collaborate with universities," he hoped.
He also congratulated the signing of the Cooperation Agreement (PKS) with Udayana University which was recently carried out. He hopes that with this collaboration, it can continue to run well and will later be evaluated to make it even better.
Meanwhile, Director of Postgraduate Unud, Prof. Dr. Ir. I Wayan Budiasa, S.P., M.P., IPU ASEAN Eng., representing the Rector of Unud said that the collaboration with ARSSI Bali Branch is within the scope of coordination and support for the implementation of higher education programs in the fields of environmental health, hospital administration management, health law and others.
"We are also trying to take the initiative to organize green house hospitality certification. In the future, this is also very necessary to realize a sustainable hospital," he said. ***
